This guided walk cruise combination immerses your party into the fascinating adjoining habitats of cassowaries and crocodiles.  Two-hour Grand Fan Palm Gallery Tour joins a 1-hour cruise through the world’s most diverse mangrove community in search of elusive estuarine crocodiles.  

The Cooper Valley, situated at the base of Thornton Peak (Wundungu) protects the biodiversity and complexity of an ancient rainforest refugium, showcasing a richness of rare and primitive flowering plants and fauna that cannot be located anywhere else in the world.  Expert Guides explain the extraordinary phenomena that is the Daintree Rainforest, from its evolutionary development, to the existence of of a multitude of rare, primitive and endemic species.  The beauty of fan palm dominated complex rainforest, combined with the intriguing mystery of Australia’s richest mangrove system, adjoin the Great Barrier Reef in a kaleidoscopic celebration of biodiversity and complexity of unrivalled proportions.

DR4 – Walk Cruise Extension

4-hour Greater Wilderness Experience through magnificent old-growth rainforest and a one-hour cruise through the world’s most diverse mangrove community, habitat to estuarine crocodiles and an extraordinary diversity of life.  This guided walk cruise combination combines the 4-hour Greater Wilderness Tour with a one-hour mangrove cruise in a 5-hour package that presents the best of the Daintree Rainforest with Australia’s most complex mangrove community, habitat to the estuarine crocodile.

Erosion and deposition of soils resulting from weathering of mountain ranges has created a mosaic of varying rainforest types to build on the biodiversity.  The 4-hour guided rainforest walk provides access into more forest types and penetration into magnificent stands of old-growth Gondwanan rainforest that better illustrate the natural and cultural values of the world’s oldest rainforest.

This stunning rainforest is not available to mass tourism.  Only small, exclusive groups, with minimal impact are permitted.   There are no boardwalks or man-made contraptions to spoil the natural beauty and visitors need to accept the elements of risks associated with natural hazards.  The walk is moderately easy, but covers about 7 kms.  A good level of fitness is required.
